History & Philosophy

Having worked in the Canadian food industry for many years, Dominic Elisii had always wanted to possess his own company. During the fast food industry’s boom in the 1980’s, Mr. Elisii was determined to find a formula which would succeed as well in Quebec as it had south of the border.

Mr. Elisii created a company based on offering a wide variety of muffins thus creating an explosion in their popularity in America, most especially in the province of Quebec.

In 1985, Mr. Elisii, in partnership with his brother Tony, opened his first store in the Alexis Nihon Plaza, facing the Montreal Forum.  This store, aptly named Le Muffin Plus, became well known for its fresh and delicious muffins made with natural ingredients.

Le Muffin Plus, being a unique concept in Quebec, has kept growing and, now boasts more than twenty stores operating in Quebec and Ontario. It is the largest muffin specialty chain restaurant in the province.

After having such great success, the Elisii brothers were inspired by another unique concept.

Combining their love of Seattle for its coffee and the European flavour of the province of Quebec, in 1995, the Elisii brothers launched “Coffee Depot”, a high-end coffee boutique serving different coffees of superior quality, other beverages and delicious pastries as well as European style “panini” sandwiches.

Le Muffin Plus and Coffee Depot stores are franchise operations with both concepts continuously expanding.

The name Coffee Depot being synonymous with quality, they firmly believe that the art of selling, honesty, justice and quality of product as well as service had every chance of succeeding in the retail coffee industry. They know it pays to produce only the best quality products.

It took a lot of long, hard work to achieve their goals: offering quality products at reasonable prices. Their ambition and professional attitude showed people that they want and appreciate their business. The future of their success stands, above all, upon this principal.

They are specialists in their field and believe it more advantageous to limit their menu by carrying only the most popular items. Not only does this help the stores run more efficiently but, also translates into more savings which can be passed onto the customer. Having fewer products which sell quickly also helps ensure that the customer is served only the best in quality and freshness.

Coffee Depot’s characteristic décor is made to attract attention and inspire confidence as a solidly established enterprise. The success in reaching their goal rests solely on their abilities. The expertise of the people they hire and train is reflected in the behaviour of the customers. For this reason, they are severe, yet just, in their criticisms during training to ensure that even the smallest of details are not overlooked.

After more than nine years in the business, there are now more than fifty Coffee Depot units operating in the province of Quebec.
