- Buy only good quality, freshly roasted
coffee.
- Use
only fresh, pure water. The natural oils are adversely affected in chlorinated
water. Do not forget that a cup of coffee is 99% water and 1% coffee.
- The
proper grind for the coffee maker used is essential. A grind that is too fine
or too coarse will make the coffee bitter or limpid. The grinders used at Coffee
Depot are of highly advanced technology and it will be our great pleasure to grind
the beans specifically for your type of coffee maker. Only electric or manual
domestic grinders should be used. Bladed grinders are not recommended if you use
piston, espresso, moka pressure, percolator, or Turkish coffee makers. However,
if you use paper filters, bladed grinders can be used. Please note that poor quality
grinders, commercial or domestic, can heat the beans and make them lose their
essential aromas.
- Use
the correct quantity of ground coffee. A quantity of seven grams or, a rounded
teaspoon, for each 210 ml. cup. For a weaker coffee, use the same recipe but,
dilute the infused coffee with a bit of simmering water. A common error is to
simply use less coffee but, this creates a more bitter tasting coffee.
- Always
wash your coffee maker very well with soap and rinse thoroughly. The coffee's
oils adhere to the sides of the coffee maker and affect the taste of freshly roasted
coffee beans. Coffee absorbs odours very quickly.
- Infuse
with simmering, not boiling water to avoid the evaporation of coffee oils.
- Consume
immediately after brewing. A freshly brewed coffee must be consumed in heated
cups within 10 to 15 minutes after brewing.
